Chief Information Security Officer, Federal Systems, Unisys Corporation
Patricia Titus is currently the Chief Information Security Officer for Unisys Federal Systems. In her current position Ms. Titus is responsible for enhancing the existing network security and policies supporting Unisys federal employees, while ensuring the continued protection of sensitive corporate and customer data. Ms. Titus is also working closely with the Unisys Chief Information Officer (CIO) and business units to enhance and embed security into the delivery of services both internal and external allowing alignment with compliance mandates and ensuring adequate security is implemented.

She also communicates with industry analysts, media/press and external thought leaders to discuss current situational awareness in cyber security and critical infrastructure protection. Ms. Titus participates in speaking and educating in these areas, capitalizing on her extensive operational and leadership experience. 

Ms. Titus is currently an active member of the American Council for Technology/Industry Advisory Council’s, Information Security and Privacy Special Interest. She serves on the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee as a respected subject matter expert and is also active in TechAmerica (formerly ITAA) committees. Ms. Titus is a Fellow in the Unisys Fellows program offering thought leadership on current cyber security trends. Ms. Titus was awarded a “Woman of Influence” from the Executive Women’s Forum in September 2009 recognizing her cyber security work. She is also on the Women’s Advisory Board for the Girl Scouts Council of the Nation’s Capital mentoring young women in the IT field. She is also a distinguished Fellow of Ponemon Institute. 

Prior to joining Unisys Ms. Titus served in public service and was the Chief Information Security Officer at the Transportation Security Administration within the Department of Homeland Security where she focused on creating, implementing and maintaining a robust IT Security Program. Previously she worked at the Department of Treasury in the Office of the Chief Information Officer as a Technology Advisor and had been assigned to various emerging technology projects and has worked extensively on enterprise network security. Ms. Titus worked and lived overseas for several years in various positions.

Abstract:

Today more then ever before IT and security professionals are plagued with threats and vulnerabilities while constantly being deluged with alerts and attack data.  What they do with all this data and how it relates to their daily activities can mean the difference between being attacked and not.  Never before has these professionals been faced with a more trying economic time fighting cost pressures with increasing threats and fewer resources.  The advent of Web 2.0, cloud computing and mobile devices has furthered the consumerizaiton of data increasing the risk to intellectual property, reputation and privacy.  Data losses are now in the thousands with the impacts being felt by the largest corporations to the private citizen. Privacy advocates have now joined the ranks with CIO’s and CISO’s realizing that data protection and privacy is out of control. 

In a complex digital world organizations, governments and citizens need to be educated on the threats and actions necessary to protect our global way of life. The Obama Administration in response to the cyber security crisis has taken action, releasing the National Security Strategy.  Many say it’s too little, too late while other applaud the action.  The US Congress continues to draft new legislation, but how much legislation is too much?  When will our constitutional rights be pushed aside in the interest of regulation?  Can this legislative body find a new platform for bi-partisan reform?
