Jona Owitti

Biography:

Jona Owitti has over 26 years of experience in the area of information security, of which the last 23 have been devoted primarily to Information Systems (IS) audit, risk, control, IT
governance and assurance. Currently, Mr. Owitti is a director of Security Risk Solutions Limited (SRS), a company specialised in providing services in the areas of information security, business continuity, computer forensics, identity management, and project work as well as physical and operational risk advice.

Mr. Owitti also serves and/or holds leadership roles in other organizations in Kenya, including:
 Founder, Immediate Past Chairman, Current Board Member and Membership Director of ISACA Kenya Chapter
 Member, Audit, Risk and Governance Committee of Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Limited
 Member, The Institute of Internal Auditors (The IIA)
 Member, Board of Governors in three public High Schools (Homa Bay High School, Buru Buru Girls’ Secondary School – Nairobi, and Nile Road Girls’ Secondary School – Nairobi)
 Consultant/Presenter, KCA University – Nairobi (on IT Governance, Risk Management, and Information Systems (IS) Audits)
 Part-time Lecturer, Strathmore University – Nairobi (IS Auditing)

 Manager, Chevron Divestment Project. Oversaw sale, as-a-going-concern, of Chevron Uganda Limited and Chevron Kenya Limited (January – August 2009)
 Member, Mwalimu Co-operative Savings and Credit Society Limited (April 1979 – July 1983)

Mr. Owitti is a former employee of Chevron Corporation (December 1987 – August 2009), retiring from the company’s employment in the position of Regional IT Audit Manager for Africa, Middle East and Pakistan region. Prior to joining Chevron, Jona was a public servant in the Government of Kenya as follows: Office of the President (April 1983 – November 1987), Teachers’ Service Commission (February 1979 – March
1983), and Ministry of Water Development (September 1978 – January 1979).

During the last 23 years, Mr. Owitti has performed and supervised numerous IS audit, control and IT security-related professional assignments in over thirty (30) countries across the globe; covering Africa, The Americas, Asia, Australia/Oceania, and Europe. These global assignments, including attendance of several professional courses and meetings, have enabled Mr. Owitti to gain extensive international and professional experience – hence, a remarkable exposure to various cultures and traditions across the world.

Jona Owitti is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), a globally respected professional qualification examined and certified by ISACA. He is also a Certified Quality Assurance Reviewer (by The IIA). Mr. Owitti also holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Dundee, United Kingdom, and an honours Bachelor of Education (Science) degree in Mathematics from the University of Nairobi, Kenya.

Mr. Owitti is married to Monica, and they are blessed with children.
